Glove Genie collaborates with yarn companies to create thoughtful knitting content that helps knitters understand a yarn, see how it behaves, and imagine what they can make with it.
Collaborations can range from a detailed yarn review to an original knitting pattern, a complete kit concept, or a knit-along.
Content can be created in English or English & Japanese.

Yarn Reviews

Let knitters see what your yarn is really like.
A yarn can look beautiful in a ball or skein, but knitters often want to know much more before choosing it for a project.
How does it feel?
How does it knit?
What does the fabric look like?
How does it behave after washing and blocking?
What sort of project is it best suited to?

Glove Genie yarn reviews are based on hands-on knitting and swatching, with the aim of giving viewers a useful and considered introduction to the yarn.

Depending on the yarn, I may explore its fibre composition, construction, provenance, sustainability story, texture, stitch definition, drape, elasticity, colour characteristics, washing and blocking behaviour, and suitability for different types of knitting projects including addiExpress knitting machines.

The main review is published on the Glove Genie YouTube channel, with additional YouTube Shorts created where appropriate.
The yarn company is credited and linked in the video information, and be invited to participate as a YouTube collaborator.

For brands working to a particular launch or campaign schedule, priority publication can also be discussed.

Pattern Collaborations

Turn your yarn into something knitters want to make.
One of the best ways to show the character of a yarn is to create a project specifically for it.

Glove Genie can develop an original knitting design around the qualities of your yarn, considering its weight, texture, colour, drape, stitch definition and intended customer.

Projects may range from smaller accessories and baby designs to larger garments or other knitting projects, depending on the collaboration.

A pattern collaboration can include:​

Designed by an experienced published knitwear designer
Glove Genie is led by Kyoko Nakayoshi, an experienced Japanese hand-knit designer whose work has been published in the UK, US and Japan.

Her designs have appeared in publications including Interweave Knits, knit.wear and Knitscene, and she was selected by Interweave Knitscene as one of eight designers to watch in 2012.

Kyoko has created patterns across a wide range of styles and techniques, and brings both design experience and practical understanding of how yarn behaves in a finished project.

English or bilingual patterns
Patterns can be created in:

English only
English and Japanese

The bilingual option is not simply a word-for-word translation. The aim is to make the pattern clear and natural for knitters in both languages, using appropriate knitting terminology and conventions.
Flexible rights options
Different rights arrangements are available depending on what your company needs.

A pattern may be:
  • exclusive
  • exclusive for 12 months, then non-exclusive
  • non-exclusive from publication

This allows smaller yarn companies to collaborate without committing to full exclusivity, while brands looking for a unique design for a specific yarn or collection can choose a more exclusive arrangement.

Where suitable, the pattern can also be supported by a Glove Genie knit-along or tutorial on YouTube, helping knitters move from discovering the yarn to actually making the project.

Kit Collaborations

A knitting kit gives customers a simple answer to one of the biggest questions they have when discovering a new yarn:

Glove Genie does not need to hold or distribute stock.

The accompanying knit-along or tutorial can be published on the Glove Genie YouTube channel, helping customers work through the project and giving the yarn continued visibility over time.
